MAYEUX FAMILY & BABYSITTERS BAKE HOLIDAY COOKIES FOR RED CROSS

RAISE MORE THAN $1,000 FOR DAYTON AREA CHAPTER

Dayton, Ohio, January 5, 2007 - This past summer, Jake, Henry and Anna Mayeux partnered in a traditional summer business venture. Ages nine, six and four respectively, their Oakwood neighborhood lemonade stand raised $20. Rather than spending their new found wealth, the three Mayeux children decided to contribute their raised fund to help others.

“As a family, we have all been touched by how much the Red Cross does for so many people across Dayton, the country and around the world,” states Julia Mayeux, the children’s mother. “After all the coverage of hurricanes and tsunamis, Jake, Henry and Anna just wanted to do what they could to help.”

The family charitable project grew significantly over the holidays. The Mayeaus, having recruited their family babysitters and friends from Oakwood High School, baked and delivered more than 3,000 peanut butter, raspberry thumbprints, ginger, iced snowflake, sugar and chocolate chip cookies door-to-door. Selling 100 boxes, the family raised more than $1,000 for the Dayton Area Red Cross Chapter.

Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering generously donated the use of their kitchen. “I don’t know how the kids, Greg and I could have done it without the assistance of the church, our babysitters and their friends,” states Julia. “We’ve always taught our children that the holidays are about more than the latest video games. They are about helping others and giving to people in need. It made the children feel great to make such an impact.”
