DAYTON AREA HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION JOINS RED CROSS IN DISASTER PREPAREDNESS CAMPAIGN
Dayton, Ohio, March 3, 2006 – March is Red Cross Month. The Home Builders Association of Dayton and Miami Valley (HBA) is helping to spread the word about the importance of being prepared for emergencies mailing more than 1,100 Together We Prepare brochures to its 800 members, and local city and county governments.
One important goal of Red Cross Month is to make people aware of both the services of local Red Cross chapters, and how to prevent, prepare for, and respond to an emergency. The Together We Prepare campaign focuses on five main steps each family can take to prepare for a disaster:
1. Make a family disaster plan
2. Build a disaster supplies kit
3. Get trained in first aid, CPR/AED, and/or disaster preparedness
4. Volunteer
5. Give blood
“With what transpired after Hurricane Katrina, the Home Builders Association felt the need to do some work for a good cause,” said Assistant Executive Director, Tim Franck. “The five-step brochure is pertinent to our industry. In addition to giving people a quality home, we want our builders to realize they are providing shelter from natural disasters.”
