Dayton Area Chapter: Celebrates Opening of Red Cross Family Living Center
On Tuesday, June16th, 2009, In a festive yet sentimental mood, the Dayton Area Chapter of the American Red Cross hosted an open house for their newly located emergency Housing program; the Red Cross Family Living Center. A program designed for families left homeless due to disastrous events.

The ceremony, filled with encouraging words and up lifting stories, began with a gracious greeting from the Mistress of Ceremony; none other than, Marsha Bonhart, news anchor for WDTN channel 2. Following the welcome was a quaint review of the history of RFLC along with video presentation of heart felt testimonials from those whose lives have been changed due to help received from this program. “These workers have proved the value of this program” said CEO Tom Fodor.

Also, during the ceremony CEO of the Dayton Area Chapter Tom Fodor encouraged those in attendance to “Keep your eyes on the prize” as did those who made this event possible. He also spoke on families one reason of which this program was founded “families come in all shapes and sizes…were doing this for the children and their families.” Fodors, uplifting words were not the only highlight of the event.

Robert Kelley Jr., Director of the RCFLC said “This day is a dream come true.” Montgomery County emergency housing program has been providing temporary housing to families for over twenty years and today houses over 500 families each year. This day was nothing short of a dream realized for Kelley and his staff. “The Red Cross is going to be a great asset to this town and I’m just glad to be apart of it,” Says Kelley.

In final act of gratitude, the Dayton Area Chapter, of the American Red Cross would like to send a special thanks to those who attended and made this event possible. Charles Meadows, Pat Rickman, Kaamil Slaughter, Aaron Sorrell, Herbert Burton & Geraldine Moran, Hunter Parker, Chaplain Leon Wilkinson, Tina Patterson, Tom Stricker, Joyce Probst-Macalpine, Executive Director of Ombudsman Diane Welborn, Adam Petty, Anita Callahan, Executive Director of Day Mont West Gail Johnson, Kristen Bowser, and Angela Hayes.
 
The Dayton Area Chapter of the American Red Cross provides disaster preparedness and response, and health and safety education to residents of Preble, Montgomery and Greene counties, as well as assistance to families with members in the military. The Chapter also operates Emergency Housing Programs in Montgomery and Greene counties. Led by volunteers, the Dayton Area Chapter responded to nearly 200 disaster incidents last year. The Dayton Area Chapter is a United Way agency.
