LIFEGUARDS TO TEST THEIR SKILLS AT RED CROSS LIFEGUARD COMPETITION
Dayton, Ohio, July 31, 2006 – Local lifeguards will showcase their skills at the 2006 Lifeguard Competition sponsored by the Dayton Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. Sponsored by The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, it will be held Sunday, August 6 from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the Kettering Recreation Center, 2900 Glengarry Drive in Kettering.
Events include:
· Submerged brick retrieval
· Active Drowning Victim Rescue
· Passive Drowning Victim Rescue
· Backboarding Scenario
· First Aid Station
· Approach Stroke Relay
The top teams will qualify for the State Lifeguard Competition to be held Sunday, August 13, 2006 at the Trotwood High School Natatorium in Trotwood. Lifeguarding is a demanding job that requires responsibility, professionalism, leadership and maturity. As such, it offers benefits often not available in jobs open to youth. This experience and the skills that accompany it are of recognized value. Lifeguarding:
