AMERICAN RED CROSS DAYTON AREA CHAPTER SUPPORTS NORTHERN NEIGHBORS

Dayton, Ohio, August 30, 2007 - Ten days after flood waters deluged Findley, Ohio and neighboring communities, volunteers and staff from the Dayton Area Chapter of the American Red Cross continue to join peers from across Ohio and the country, providing assistance to those impacted by the floods in Findley and its neighboring communities. The chapter's Chief Emergency Services Officer Fran O’Shaughnessy has been in charge of the national disaster response since the flooding began on August 22nd.

Five additional volunteers from the Dayton area are also stationed in the region. Two are providing material support to the effort, two others are utilizing the chapter's emergency response vehicle (ERV) to distribute food and other necessities and one volunteer is a member of the Red Cross rapid response team, helping to coordinate national financial resources. Several others from the Miami Valley have made the drive to offer their services.

About the American Red Cross, Dayton Area Chapter

The Dayton Area Chapter of the American Red Cross provides disaster preparedness and response, and health and safety education to residents of Montgomery, Greene and Preble counties, as well as assistance to families with members in the military. The Chapter also operates Emergency Housing Programs in Montgomery and Greene counties, and led by volunteers, responds to more than 200 local disaster incidents each year.
