A Silent Disaster for the Ealy Family

On a cold December morning the Ealy Family was forced from their Dayton home by a fire that ravaged the inside.
The family escaped with not much more than the clothes on their backs. Thanks to volunteers from the Dayton Area Chapter, the Ealy Family received a place to stay, clothes and food.
Each year the Dayton Area Chapter provides relief for victims of approximately 200 disasters -- most of which never make headlines. These "silent" disasters aren't the ones that appear on the evening news. They may be the single-family house fires or the apartment blazes that all boil down to one terrible moment for a family whose lives are changed forever. In fact, fires alone accounted for about 90 percent of the total Red Cross disaster response in Greene, Montgomery and Preble counties last year.
Silent disasters can affect thousands, or just one family who suffers a residential fire. Regardless of whether the disaster makes headlines, the Red Cross is there with the same crucial comfort and care that all disaster victims deserve. There is no such thing as a small disaster - a house fire is just as devastating for the family that experiences it as a tornado or a hurricane.
All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. You can help the victims of local disasters by making a financial gift to the Dayton Area Chapter’s local disaster relief fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need.
