GREATER DAYTON CHAPTERS OF THE AMERICAN REDCROSS SEEK VOLUNTEERS

Former President Clinton once stated that, “volunteering is an act of heroism on a grand scale. And it matters profoundly. It does more than help people beat the odds; it changes the odds.”

Does the holiday season motivate you to volunteer in your community?

Local chapters of the American Red Cross are currently engaged in active volunteer recruitment campaigns  to improve disaster response across the region. Volunteers are being sought to help deliver disaster assistance to local families and to support the day-to-day administrative and fundraising activities of the six chapter offices in the Miami Valley. American Red Cross chapters are volunteer driven organizations, relying upon donations of time from community members to respond to hundreds of fires and local disaster incidents annually. These "heroes" sacrifice time from their lives and families to lend a helping hand in support of neighbors and strangers. These efforts have real impact, leaving impressions upon the lives of both the victims and the volunteers.

With training, anyone can be a Disaster Team volunteer. The Disaster Team’s purpose is to place trained volunteers at the scene of a disaster within minutes of its occurrence. The team provides immediate identifiable emergency services such as food, clothing, shelter and health services to disaster victims. Each team member will be locally trained in First Aid, CPR, Damage Assessment, Shelter Management and other introductory courses. Disaster team volunteers must be at least 18 years old, be in good health, have their own transportation and telephone, and must be willing to respond as needed when they are on duty.

Chapters are also seeking experienced health and mental health services professionals to provide physical and emotional health support associated with disasters. Volunteers respond to the emotional and physical needs of disaster victims and responders.

Are you interested in office work?

Opportunities also exist for individuals willing to provide administrative support during chapter office hours. Volunteers can help others prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

For citizens who want to make a difference by helping to providing strategic vision for the local efforts of the Red Cross, positions may be available on your local chapter's Board and committees.
