It was a Slam Dunk at the Wright State Raiders Basketball Game!
At last night’s basketball game, we saw victory in more ways than one. Not only did the Wright State Raiders finally break their losing streak by beating Toledo 50 to 35, the Dayton Area Chapter of the American Red Cross rallied support for the “Text to Give” campaign.
Waddles made an appearance to encourage fans in the stands to take out their cell phones and text the word “GIVE” to 24357. This allowed callers to make a $5 donation to the Disaster Relief Fund through their cell phone carrier.

At the time of this report, we do not know the final number of people who actually texted to donate, but having a great opportunity like this to get the word out to the public about the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund — and how it helps victims of disaster — is always a victory in itself.
A special thanks goes out to the Wright State University Athletic Department for being so cooperative in helping us with this campaign. Also, Matt Thomas, who took on the character of Waddles (in more ways than one) to work the crowd, definitely made a huge difference in participation.
Perhaps it was a coincidence that the Red Cross was there when the Raiders finally got on the winning track, but you know what they say … a good deed always comes back ten-fold!
