The American Red Cross is banking on your help
Dayton, Ohio, March 11, 2009 – March was proclaimed as Red Cross Month. In honor of this month, Fifth Third Bank set up an account at all branches for Greene, Montgomery and Preble County residents to donate funds; to support Red Cross programs and serves.
The annual Make Your Change Count fundraising campaign began on March 2 and continued through March 31. All donations went directly to funding the Red Cross emergency preparedness programs and the disaster relief fund which provides food, shelter and clothing to victims of house/apartment fires, floods and weather-related disasters.
On Saturday, March 14, 2009, the Red Cross joined by the Eaton Branch of Fifth Third Bank, encouraged residents to give a donation, learn more about Red Cross programs, and enjoy the food & festivities. “I have always been amazed at the generosity of Red Cross supporters,” states Judy Elder, Director of Service Center Operations for the American Red Cross, Preble County branch. “Thanks to this generosity, we are able to respond and support victims of local disasters who otherwise would be left out in the cold.”
You can give a donation to the Make Your Change Count campaign at any Fifth Third Branch until March 31, 2009. If you would like to make a donation directly to the Dayton Area Chapter, you can go online to www.dac.recdcross.org, or call (937) 222-6711 for more information.

Annual Red Cross Lifeguard Competition
AND THE WINNERS ARE………
Vandalia, Ohio, July 21, 2009 - Although Sunday, July 19th, was a little chilly for a swim in the pool, that did not stop the Doggie Paddlers from swamping the competition in this year’s American Red Cross Regional Lifeguard Competition; held at Cassel Hills Pool in Vandalia.
Nearly 130 young men and women traveled from all over the Miami Valley with their buoys and boards to compete in individual First Aid and Spinal Life Saving competitions, Active and passive drowning rescue events, and finally a team relay.
"The competition was amazing. Not only did it provide a competitive edge for lifeguards across the Miami Valley, but it also provided an opportunity for the lifeguards to see what skills they need to work on in the future," said Elizabeth Pages participant in this year’s competition.
Though 15 teams participated in this year’s event, only 5 will have the opportunity to be sponsored by the Dayton Area Chapter (DAC) and compete in the state wide Lifeguard Competition on August 2, in Dublin, Ohio.
